Details
With its bold strong looks, the Marantz PM6004 stereo amplifier looks and sounds fantastic. Based on Marantz's incredibly popular PM6003, the PM6004 has had an overhaul to improve sound quality. For those of us technically minded, the largest difference is the seperation of the pre and power stages into two separate boards, giving greater sound isolation and a large improvement on overall sound. Running at 60W per channel, most speakers can be run with comparative ease, although we would tend to recommend small or large bookshelf speakers - most floorstanders will run perfectly fine however.
Features remain the same and as always are strong - A and B speaker switching allow you to run the amplifier in mutliple ways - either bi-amping a single set of speakers, or running two pairs of speakers, but having the choice of turning either of the pairs off if so desired. There's also an inbuilt phono stage, meaning you can plug a record deck directly into the amplifier with no need for an off board phono stage - something not seen often nowadays and very handy.
