The Roksan Kandy K2 integrated amplifier is an exceptional high quality stereo amplifier deisgned to provide the best sound quality for listening to your music.
Based on the previous award winning model the L.iii, the Kandy K2 picks up where that left off with a full overhaul. First impressions are of course looks - some effort has gone into creating a beautiful looking amplifier, and they have certainly achieved that. The clean lines and details are impressive, with the mirrored front (tinted black on the black finish) impresses - detailing on the buttons is great and as always Roksan have used a heavy duty chassis and body which not only adds weight and gravitas to the unit, but also gives improved sound quality over using a cheaper, light weight chassis.
Internally, the Kandy K2 has been extensively reworked, and this places the Kandy K2 into the top of its class at this level. Certainly, sound quality is outstanding for the price - a price tag of around £1,000 would not have been unwarranted on this unit, so we are particularly impressed with its performance.
With 125W per channel it certainly won't struggle with any choice of speaker you wish to throw at it, and the addition of pre-outs means that you can upgrade with ease, either by adding a power amplifier and using the K2 as your pre-amp, or for best results we'd recommend bi-amping - use the K2 to power the high frequency (HF) section of your speakers and the power amplifier to run the low frequency (LF). The K2 doesn't have A/B switching which is possibly the only minus, but those pre-amps more than make up for it!
Of course, you have the usual inputs and outputs, and the addition of a moving magnet phono input is fantastic, as is the handy tape loop. Tone controls are not included in this unit which again (as with the lack of A/B speaker switching) seems to be a more than unsubtle nod towards sound quality over what many consider to be useless features that detract from the sound.
All in all, an exceptional stereo amplifier for true audiophiles. It partners well with a variety of sources, though of course as with all manufacturers, their recommendation of their own K2 CD player is of course a great match.
