When it comes to budget compact stereo speakers, you'll be hard pushed to find a speaker as pleasing as the Tannoy Mercury V1 speakers. With its well crafted cabinet and choice of two incredible looking finishes, the Mercury V1's certainly look the part.
Even better though, they deliver a fantastic sound with great timing and a wonderful balance. The soundstage is large and well defined, and vocals sound extraordinary. Particularly good on layered instrumentals, they still perform well on rock and pop music - a great all rounder in our opinion.
They've even caught the attention of the press, and What Hi-Fi? magazine are equally impressed and have given them their 5 star award - you can read the review in full by clicking here.
With the speakers you get a pair of grilles - as always, sound quality is better with the grilles removed, but if you prefer to keep a dust free speaker, simply pop them on. The speakers do have screw holes fittings on the rear and you can certainly wall mount them (brackets are not included), however sound is not as great and they do protrude into the room - if you can stick them on a shalf you will get better results. The speakers are also magnetically shielded, so you can pop them right next to your television without interefering with the picture - and Tannoy have created a range of speakers if you wish to use the Mercury V1's as the basis of a home cinema system.
