Details

The Pioneer BDP-LX55 3D Blu-ray player offers an exceptional picture quality on both your Blu-ray and your DVD collection. It handles both 3D Blu-rays and Blu-rays with ease, with good response times and an exceptional picture quality for the price (you'd have to jump quite a bit higher in price to get a noticeable improvement, and it knocks the socks off of budget players), however we are particularly impressed with DVD playback.

DVD's are of course upscaled, and its this noticeable improvement over your standard DVD player that we are particularly impressed by. Images are crisp and there is a feel of an HD movie (despite of course the content being standard definition). Audio is also strong, with support for both DVD-Audio and SACD. It's not quite as good as a similarly priced CD player, which is of course to be expected, but its very good for what is essentially a video machine.

There are of course some fantastic features included on the BDP-LX55 - the dual HDMI output is useful (although not essential) particualrly if you want to run a TV and projector and your AV receiver doesn't support dual HDMI out. Networking featuires are strong, with DLNA streaming supported (meaning you can stream music and video content across your network), and online services such as BD-Live and YouTube are supported.

Networking is best if you wire the player directly into your router - particularly if you are intending to stream video content - however you can add the ASW-L300 wireless LAN adaptor to the BDP-LX55 if you want to stream wirelessly. Either way, as soon as you have connected to your router, you can take advantage of the iPhone or android control app - this application allows you to control your player via your phone and is fantastic - much easier than the remote and gives you much clearer control.

All in all, this is a very versatile and strong player - noticeably better than the budget players, this should be one of your first choices if you are looking at quality playback instead of budget playback.
