KEF KHT1505 home cinema speaker package

The KEF KHT1505 home cinema speaker package offers simple, easy and affordable speakers for the home, with a simple and elegant cylindrical design.

The package consists of five identical satellite speakers and the KEF C4 subwoofer (available separately as well as part of this package). Although the package doesn't include speaker stands, you can opt to add on the 1000 series speaker stands. However, each satellite on its own can stand on its end, sit on its side, or be wall mounted.

The subwoofer is a fairly classic styled forward firing subwoofer, albiet with a 200W amplifier - significantly more than most of its rivals, and this shows in the delivery of both movies and music, with a definite thump that the others can't deliver.

Where the KHT1505 slightly lacks is in the top end - previous KEF packages had a noteable sharp and precise 'tip' to the top end frequencies, but with the KHT1505 they have opted to smooth this off to provide a more universally acceptable sound, and one that will work better with the already harsh Japanese manufacturers such as Denon. This provides us with mixed emotions - yes, with Denon and Yamaha the older KEF's always sounded a little too harsh, but that could be tempered with the right choice of speaker cables. Now, the KHT1505 does sound better straight out of the box, but certainly at a slight sacrifice of sound. A definite trend towards uniformity that we have seen across many manufacturers!

However, this is still a minor point - overall, the KHT1505 really does deliver, and as a whole is an improvement on previous models. Indeed, despite tough competition at this price level, the KEF certainly holds its own. We'd recommend it particularly if you are after deep and responsive bass, or prefer an open clean sounstage. Ultimately, as with most packages at this price mark, styling is an incredibly important factor when there is so little to choose between sound, so if you love the look, you are onto a clear winner here!
